Human figures

The human figure appears less frequently among the rock engravings and, when it does, it is generally represented more schematically.

As with animal depictions, human figures are shown in a variety of postures, such as standing, walking, running, lying down, sitting and dancing. Some figures are drawn with their legs outstretched, almost as if they are flying across the rock face. Some human figures are painted in detail.

They may have lines at the wrist and ankle, as well as just below the knee. These lines probably depict beads, skin or fiber bangles. Animation is indeed one of the key impressions conveyed by San rock art.
